Lamelle Chemical Peels
A Chemical Skin Peel: What is it, how does it work and is it right for you?
The chemical peel is one of the most honest skincare treatments around. It doesn’t hide behind fancy name. It is what it says: a chemical solution that harnesses your body’s natural processes of renewal, which can largely be summed up as “discard old skin cells to make space for new ones.” In other words it causes the skin to peel so that the new skin can grow in its place. The idea of peeling away small amounts of skin might sound scary initially, but chemical peels are one of the most common treatments for correcting skin and achieving visible results – especially in winter, when skin needs a bit of a lift – simply because they have proven so very effective in rectifying damage and renewing skin.
How do chemical peels work?
To understand the science behind peels, what conditions they can help alleviate and to be able to make informed decision, it’s best to start at the beginning: how renewal naturally happens in the skin. Different chemical types have their own properties, but generally, chemical peel acids penetrate the skin and break the bonds between the layers of skin, so the top layers will start peeling off. The type of peel, its concentration and the exact chemical composition will determine how deep it penetrates (and thus how deep the peel is). Always, but always have a peel done by your expertly trained and trusted skincare therapist. You’ll go for assessment first, as one specific peel or combination peels and concentrations might be best for your individual skin. Your therapist will know just what’s right for you.
Regenerating Skin
Lifecycles are very important in nature, and our bodies are no different. It is just as important for skin cells to drop off and make space for new cells as it is to live healthily. In fact, our bodies rely on it (cancer is a prime example of what happens when cells don’t “die” when they are supposed to). We shed a lot skin, constantly. In fact, your skin seems to completely renew itself every 30 days or so (ideally). Why? Because you skin there to protect the rest of your body – it is designed to grow quickly from the deepest layers through to the uppermost, so that it can shed. This process allows your skin to keep impurities out of your body. And there are a lot of impurities to go around. Nearly every minute of every day, your skin has to fend off a barrage of attacks from pollutants, chemical, ultra violet rays, changes in temperature and climate, bacteria and a host of potential infections. These all pose a threat to you, and your skin is there to save the day. And, naturally, fending off these elements has an impact on your skin in the long run, especially as we get older and the natural renewal process slows down a little. This “impact” (damage) can show up in a few ways, from wrinkles, lines and sagging to hyper-pigmentation and even acne – all of which you’ll recognise as conditions you’ll want to have corrected timeously and effectively. If, at this point, you were thinking along the lines of, “Hey, why not use the body’s natural regenerative processes to correct this type of damage?” then you are right on the money. Because that is exactly what chemical peels do.
How much skin do we shed?
It’s estimated that we have around 1,6 trillion skin cells on our bodies (estimated by how much of your bodyweight skin accounts for, because no one has managed to sit down and count them all yet). And we shed around 30 000 to 40 000 of them every hour – that’s around a million a day, or 3,6 kg per year.
The purpose of chemical Peels
- Erase imperfections
- Remove damaged skin
- Improve skin tone and texture
- Allow new skin to grow
What conditions are treated with chemical peels?
Chemical Peels are used to treat:
- Acne
- Ageing
- Hyper-pigmentation
But they are also great for:
- Firming and tightening
- Rejuvenation
- Resurfacing of skin
- Improving complexion
- Stimulating healthy new tissue growth
Peels and Concentrations
You might have heard or seen certain percentages used in conduction with peels: Glycolic Acid 20% or 30%, for example. These denote the concentration of the key ingredient (Alpha-Hydroxy in the case of this example) in the peel’s chemical make-up. We might assume that the concentration is an indication of a peel’s strength, but this is not entirely correct, according to Dr Bradley Wagemaker, Lamelle’s Medical Director. “The actual chemicals used and the way the entire chemical cocktail is combined in the product plays a huge part in the strength and effectiveness of the peel,” he says. “So you’ll find that a 15% concentration in the same type of peel from two different sources might not be equally effective.” Another important factor is the person performing the treatment: a skincare therapist or medical aesthetic doctor who is trained and well versed in the particular protocols of a product will help ensure maximum safety and efficacy for your skin during treatment. “Thus you’ll find that the brand of peel that is used (in terms of who manufactured it) and the person performing the treatment are key in ensuring you get the results you are looking for,” Dr Wagemaker concluded. Lamelle Research Laboratories prides itself on industry-leading on-going therapist training programmes (to ensure your therapist knows their products inside out), as well as Lamelle’s top-tier chemical peel products.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a treatment take? The peel itself is usually no longer than five minutes. But there is usually prepping and care involved, so bank on a at least 15 minutes. What does it feel like? It depends on the product used. Alpha and Beta peels cause only some tingling, while a TCA peel is slightly more intense. Any discomfort subsides after a minute or two, though. What about after the treatment? On average, with Alpha and Beta peels, your skin will look youthful and glowing. It may be a little red, but that will subside very quickly. With a TCA peel, some recovery time will be needed. How long do the results last? With proper home care, months or even years.
What to expect when considering a skin peel
Now that we have wrapped our heads around what chemical peels are and what they are used for, it’s important to note that, if you want to give your skin a bit of a pick-me-up, your first port of call should be your trusted skincare therapist.
- Your therapist will do an assessment beforehand, and make recommendations based on your skin and your requirements.
- More than one type of peel may be required to achieve results.
- A home-care and post-treatment regimen will be recommended for optimal results.
- Note that a chemical peel is not a once-off fix: several treatments over an extended period of time may be needed to achieve results safely.
- The peel is only part of the treatment: the entire treatment includes a whole array of products to prep and boost your skin.

NEW AGE ‘PEEL AND HEAL’ – NATURAL FRUIT ACIDS 20%, 40%, 70%, 90%
Benefits ALL Skin Types – even Sensitive Skins – Male and Female, All Ages, even very young skins Skin Rejuvenation & Pigmentation: Expect tightening and firming of the skin. This is one of the wonderful benefits of this particular peeling treatment. Do not mistake this for the skin being dry. If there is no flaking the skin is more elasticized and firmer, not dry, enjoy it. Its combined actions smooth wrinkles and improve sun damaged skin. It also helps remove solar keratoses ‘sun spots’, ‘age spots’ and ‘liver spots’, helps eliminate and control pigmentation, helps uneven skin tone, helps active acne and improves old acne scarring, and finally smoothes uneven skin texture. If one has undergone laser skin resurfacing and wishes to re-capture the post-laser smoothness, then maintenance with the ‘Peel and Heal’ is simple and effective. If one has undergone liquid nitrogen (burning off) treatment for ‘sun spots’ previously and has any residual darkened, rough areas, one can be helped with the ‘Peel and Heal’. CAUTION must be paid when applying the higher strength peels to either Asian or black skins. The 70% peel must NOT be used for pigmentation, and it is only with caution that either a 70%, 90% or Acne Attack peel be applied to an Asian or black skin. A 70% peel is NOT recommended for an Asian skin as it is much finer. Scarring: Helps level and smooth coarse, lumpy, hypertrophic, keloid scars. Improves scars many years old and helps soften old skin grafted areas. Improves flexibility and mobility of hard scarred skin. Helps restore normal pigmentation. In certain cases improves function of old scarred areas. Helps improve smoothness and colour of old burn scars. May be applied to pink, red or purple stretch marks and followed up with Scar Repair & Anti-Stretch Complex or Body Toning Treatment for home care. WHO PERFORMS THE PEELS, HOW OFTEN, AND IS IT PAINFUL? The ‘Peel and Heal’ must be performed by a RégimA trained skin care professional. A series of peels may be necessary to achieve an optimal end result to a particular problem. It is better and more favourable long-term to start off conservatively with the peels, each treatment time may be increased, dependent on patient/client reaction and tolerance. With a problem such as pigmentation it would be ideal to commence with either a weekly regime if tolerated very well, or a fortnightly peel if one does experience peeling. One can then progress to either monthly or six weekly as desired or required. Dependent on the condition of the skin, on application one experiences a slight stinging/tingling sensation which occurs mainly during the first five minutes following application, but mostly one feels itchiness. It is easily tolerated and one may massage around with the pads of fingers to relieve any itchiness. This generally settles down. The peel will be left on for a period of time at the discretion of the skin care professional. This may be generally between 10 to a maximum of 60 minutes, depending on skin condition, problem and tolerance. It must be thoroughly neutralized using RégimA Cleansing Gel and the first cleanse does sting for a minute or so. This quickly settles down and the appropriate RégimA post peel products will be applied to the area. IMPORTANT NOTE: It is very well tolerated by most people, even the very young skins (as young as 11 years old). May sting more initially if the skin is dry and out of condition. Known to sting when applied pre-menstrually. During certain times of year it may sting slightly more – in extremes of cold and hot weather. Safe to use all year round. MUST I USE RÉGIMA PRODUCTS IF I AM UNDERGOING ‘PEEL AND HEAL’ TREATMENTS? YES: The ‘Peel and Heal’ will not be applied to any patient/client who is not using the RégimA home care Essentials. It is critical that one uses RégimA Cleanser, Day and Night products. For 2 nights following the peel one must use one of the following: Scar Repair, Quantum Elastin or Laser Gel. The natural peel and the natural products have been formulated to work synergistically and other cosmetic products may not react favourably. DO NOT USE ANY OTHER PRODUCTS IN COMBINATION WITH RÉGIMA. WHAT WILL I LOOK LIKE AFTER THE PEEL? Dependent on skin type and initial condition, a degree of erythema (redness) is experienced during the peel, and one can feel the skin is hot. This is mainly due to the stimulation. The redness usually goes down within a few hours and one looks back to normal. There may be some superficial flaking over the next couple of days but this is easy to handle. One may work and socialize as normal. Only following a deeper peeling session will the skin remain red for a few days. Particularly during and after the 70% peel there may be swelling and more extensive peeling, especially in sensitive areas. The skin feels smoother and softer immediately following cleansing. In olive or darker skins if there is any peeling the skin MAY look darker initially on these areas as the dead skin is sloughing off. One must be patient and continue with the home care and the peels, and this will improve quickly.
What is a Dermaroller and what does it do?
Skin needling is a procedure that involves puncturing the skin multiple times with small needles attached to a cylindrical roller (Dermaroller) to induce collagen growth and improve atrophic (depressed) acne scarring. Pioneered by Dr. Andre Camirand in the late 1990s as an evolutionary step from scar Subcision®, it simply involves the use of manually applied skin rollers that have around 200 fine surgical steel needles attached to the roller mechanism. It’s applied directly to the skin in a crisscross motion. The objective is to stimulate or puncture the skin to stimulate collagen and elastin production, smooth skin and promote scar or stretch mark reduction through the skins natural wound healing process. For the medical grade level application of skin needling, the target of the needles and penetration is the upper dermis called the intermediate reticular dermis. The effects of skin needling differ according to needle gauge, length and the manual pressure that’s used with the roller. Therefore the level of skin invasion and subsequent inflammation on the skin can vary from gentle stimulation to piercing the skin and drawing fluids, i.e., blood and lymph.
All of the below treatments are done with the latest Laser Technology. Without causing any damage to skin.
COLLAGEN FACE TREATMENTS
Stimulates the Fibroblast cells that makes Collagen, so your skin will be producing more collagen to make wrinkles look softer.
The flash light has a warm feeling on your skin, not painful. We recommend 10 sessions of 30min each.
COLLAGEN ENHANCEMENT FACIAL 30 MINUTES:
A corrective treatment designed to treat sun damaged and environmentally stressed skin utilising the latest in light technology. Starting by gently cleansing the skin, followed by the PTF light treatment that will stimulate your fibroblast cells to create more collagen. Will improve soft lines and let collagen production be increased leaving the skin feeling soft and revitalised. Ending of with a day cream chosen for your skin. Much more effective to do in multiple session or as a package.
Multi-Polar RF
Multi-polar RF (radio frequency) uses one probe with 6 “poles” to deliver RF energy to the skin- combining the effects of uni-polar and bi-polar to tissue under the skin. It selectively increases the temperature of Collagen cells doing so simultaneously in the deep and superficial layers of fat. This increases metabolism within the skin and contraction of the collagen fibers. This technology offers treatment sessions that require less time and fewer appointments, saving money and time.
It is totally non-invasive and painless! Clients usually experience a mild tingling and a gentle heating sensation. The treatment feels like a massage, its completely pain-free!
In Short, it’s a treatment that will treat your loose skin, Fat and cellulite without injections, surgery or downtime!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Skin tightening in the face
As our skin matures and is subjected to environmental effects, its connective tissue begins to break down, causing wrinkles and other signs of ageing develop.
The elastic fibres of the skin, collagen and elastin, are produced by a connective tissue cell, the fibroblast. As they contract, collagen strands are pulled closer resulting in immediately tightened skin giving immediate results. This is followed by collagen remodelling and regeneration over the full treatment course giving you a long term result. Can be used on all skin types to regenerate collagen, tighten and tone the skin and improve overall skin laxity, this treatment can gently and effectively tighten the skin on your face and neck.
Skin tightening on the body
The Multi-Polar RF penetrates the skin layers to heat the skin tissue and the extra-cellular matrix (ECM) where our collagen fibers are made. This heating causes an immediate contraction of the collagen fibers, and at the same time increases the metabolism of the Fibroblasts, which are the cells that makes our collagen and elastin fibers.
This contraction of collagen fibers and the regeneration of the collagen and Elastin will tighten the skin giving you a healthier and younger looking skin. This is very beneficial on the bums, tummy, legs and arms.
The treatments are accumulative meaning the results of each previous treatment is improved with each additional treatment.
What happens after a Multi-Polar treatment?
Immediately after treatment, some redness and warmth can be seen and felt on the skin. Both should disappear with an hour or so following the treatment. It is also possible that some clients that are sensitive can have a few VERY superficial blisters on the surface of the skin that will also disappear after it made a superficial scab.(does not happen to everyone and its not pain full)
When can I expect to see results?
Immediate results are seen in almost all patients during the first treatment. The ultimate results can be seen over the full treatment course
How many treatments will I need?
A treatment course consists of 8-10 sessions. Each session takes between 20-45 minutes (depending on the treatment area), followed by a maintenance session once every 4-8 weeks.
Why will I want to choose this treatment?
- RF technology focuses the RF energy right where it is needed
- Visible results from the first treatment
- RF technology delivers focused energy achieving a better and faster outcome, resulting in fewer treatment sessions
- RF does not use any type of light in its treatment, therefore making it suitable for all skin types.
What is Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning is a physical exfoliation method that requires the use of a sterile surgical scalpel to gently remove the top layer of the skin, the stratum corneum, dead skin layer, and vellus hair, also known as peach fuzz. This treatment results in ultra-smooth, fresh, and brighter skin. By removing that dead layer and hair from the face, the skin is evened out, and it helps with cell metabolism, which helps new skin come to the surface.
What are the benefits of dermaplaning?
- Zero peach fuzz
- Brighter looking skin
- Better penetration of products
- Removal of all dead skin cells
Is dermaplaning the same as shaving?
There are a couple of major differences between the two techniques, but it’s easiest to think of dermaplaning as the more thorough, skin-safe version and shaving as a cheaper, at-home option. Dermaplaning is performed by a licensed professional.
- Shaving razors only remove the hair off the skin
- Dermaplaning removes dead skin cells thus exfoliating the skin
Will dermaplaning cause any break-outs?
Quite the opposite, actually. A buildup of dead skin can clog your pores and hair follicles, which can not only cause pimples but also block your skincare products from penetrating the skin, which is why exfoliation is essential for maintaining an even, healthy glow.
Does Dermaplaning Hurt?
No it doesn’t hurt. You will feel that something is happening but no pain at all.
Is there any downtime after Dermaplaning?
No. Some light redness can be expected but not always.
Will Dermaplaning make my hair grow back thicker and darker?
No. Contrary to what you have been told about shaving, dermaplaning will not make hair grow back thicker or darker. It will grow back in the same texture as before and color.
How often can I do Dermaplaning
Since this is a deeply exfoliating treatment, we recommend doing it at least once a month unless advised otherwise.
What are the contra-indications to Dermaplaning
- Diabetes
- Hirsutism (excessive male – pattern hair growth in women )
- Active acne ,cystic acne
- Lupus disease
- Keloid Scarring
- Herpes simplex
- Cancer of any form at any time.
- Roaccutane, acutane, cortizone (6 months after last use)
- Inflamed skin ,inflamed acne legions
- Active cold sores
Hydra facial
What is hydra Facial?
A Hydra Facial is a treatment that uses patented technology (a medical-grade device) to cleanse, extract, and hydrate skin. It clears dead skin cells, loosens pores, and preps them for extraction. It uses a unique vacuum-powered extraction method to remove “gunk” from the skin in a virtually painless procedure.
It’s all made possible thanks to a double-helix vortex treatment wand. One chamber of the wand draws dead skin cells and dirt from the skin while the other pumps the skin full of soothing nutrients (hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, and growth factors). Basically, your skin is freshly cleared for deeper penetration. It’s essentially a peel, microdermabrasion, and hydrating mask all in one.
Known for its three-step process, the Hydra Facial works to deep-clean, exfoliate, and hydrate your skin. This professional procedure may help treat a variety of skin conditions, including acne, dryness, and wrinkles.
What are the benefits of a Hydra Facial
The treatment works instantly on visible pores and fine lines. Patients will witness enhanced firmness and improved texture and complexion, immediately, and they’ll see all their blackheads vanish without a trace. You can expect to leave your Hydra Facial treatment with a brighter complexion and glowing skin. The Hydra Facial produces consistent results that patients can count on time and time again. It’s reliably safe and effective at improving the current condition of your skin. And by providing an infusion of essential vitamins, moisture, and antioxidants to your skin, it helps fight the early signs of aging and protects from environmental pollution and harmful free radicals.
Overall, a Hydra Facial can be used to address a variety of skin care needs, including:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Elasticity and firmness
- Even tone and vibrancy
- Skin texture
- Oily and congested skin
- Enlarged pores.
- hydration
Any downtime with Hydra Facial?
In just around 30 minutes, a Hydra Facial can give you clearer, more radiant skin with little to zero irritation, meaning virtually no downtime. No special preparation is required, and clients can return to their normal activities immediately after treatment.
A Hydra Facial is such a popular treatment because you get fantastic results without all the side effects typically associated with deep skin treatments. Compared to microdermabrasion, peels, and micro-needling, it is a painless procedure that can be completed in 30 minutes with no downtime. This makes it ideal for individuals who want healthy, beautiful skin immediately. It’s the perfect addition to anyone’s monthly skin routine.
